More Thoughts on the Fuzzy Navel
A deceptively simple cocktail recipe, the Fuzzy Navel is just two ingredients: Peach Schnapps and Orange Juice. It’s no surprise the flavours go together so well. Orange Juice is pretty much universally well liked while Peaches are quite tasty! And in Schnapps form, Peaches are even better. The Fuzzy Navel is mostly a sweet cocktail, thanks to the Schnapps, but also partly thanks to the Orange Juice. However, the Orange Juice also manages to add just a hint of sourness to prevent this cocktail from just being a bit sugar hit.
So if you’re after a cocktail recipe that’s easy to make, and even easier to drink, perhaps the Fuzzy Navel is for you!
Can the Fuzzy Navel be made as a batch?
Since the Fuzzy Navel is just two ingredients built in a glass, it’s easy enough to mix everything together in a mixing glass or jug. This works well if you have a few people you want to serve this cocktail to. Just stir everything together then pour the cocktail into glasses pre-filled with ice.
Does pre-making the Fuzzy Navel work?
Yes! Just mix everything together in a mixing glass or jug and leave it in the refrigerator. Don’t add ice when you mix everything together or when it’s in the fridge. The ice shouldn’t come until the drink is served in the glass.
When should I have a Fuzzy Navel?
As the Fuzzy Navel was created by a Peach Schnapps manufacturer in order to promote the product, there’s not really a story here to give the cocktail the right kind of attitude that would put it towards an occasion or location.
But that being said, lighter cocktails with Orange Juice, like the Fuzzy Navel, are often great earlier in the day or, dare we say it, in the morning over brunch. Peach Schnapps is relatively low in alcohol compared to a lot of spirits, so a Fuzzy Navel would be just as appropriate over brunch as a Mimosa. Similar to the Mimosa, cocktails like this also work well in the early to mid afternoon. Basically it’s a day drinking cocktail.
Is the Fuzzy Navel a strong cocktail?
Nope! As things go, the Fuzzy Navel is quite a light cocktail. While there’s a nice amount of Peach Schnapps in the recipe, Peach Schnapps usually only comes in at about 15-20% alcohol by volume, which is about half the ABV you’d see in the more common base spirits used in cocktails (Whiskey, Gin, Rum, Vodka, etc.). This is another reason why we see the Fuzzy Navel as a good brunch cocktail or for slightly earlier in the day; it’s not so strong that it will ruin things for you!
What kind of music goes best with the Fuzzy Navel?
Born out of the 1980’s, we think the Fuzzy Navel would go well with music from the same decade, and nothing too classy either! This recipe became very popular with younger people in the 1980’s so we need to put it together with the more popular music of the time. So have a Fuzzy Navel while listening to some 1980’s Pop music or Rock music. It will be nice to revisit some forgotten classics!
