Bacardi Special cocktail in a coupe glass

Bacardi Cocktail

Print Recipe
The Bacardi Cocktail is a relatively simple rum based cocktail that was the precursor to the only slightly more complicated Bacardi Special. Both cocktails are wonderful though!
In a lot of way, the Bacardi Cocktail is really just a Classic Daiquiri that adds some grenadine to it. And by "a lot of ways," we mean, that's essentially what it is! It's the same ingredients with grenadine added. So if you already have the ingredients for a Daiquiri, just add grenadine and you're good to go.
Although the Bacardi Cocktail is called the Bacardi Cocktail, you're welcome to use any kind of white rum you desire. Bacardi, of course, goes well here, but the world of white rum is vast and you may have something you enjoy a bit more. In fact, some earlier versions of this recipe only differentiated the Bacardi Cocktail from a Daiquiri because it used Bacardi, and it didn't have grenadine. It's unclear when grenadine first started getting used in the Bacardi Cocktail; it may have been how it was originally made in Cuba in the early 1900's, or it could have gotten introduced to the recipe when it was imported to the United States.
Either way you look at it, the Bacardi Cocktail certainly is tasty!

Like the Daiquiri, the Bacardi cocktail has and can be served frozen as well. This would just involve putting all the ingredients in a blender with ice. While some people like frozen cocktails like this, others feel it waters things down too much and takes away from the classic aspects of cocktails like this. We'll leave it up to you!
Either way you enjoy the Bacardi Cocktail, make sure the white rum you're using is of good quality and that the lime juice is fresh. There's very little to hide behind in a cocktail with few ingredients like this, so make all the ingredients count!
