An Amaretto Sour on a bar top.

Amaretto Sour

Print Recipe
A nice twist on the standard Whiskey Sour, the Amaretto Sour adds more flavour and interest to a classic.
Of course Amaretto and Whiskey Sours aren't the only sour style cocktails out there, but they're probably two of the most popular. If you always lean towards a Whiskey Sour though, it's worth changing things up for a different flavour profile.
Otherwise, just make a few of these if you want to try something new.
Total Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 45 mL Amaretto
  • 30 mL Bourbon
  • 20 mL Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Simple Syrup*
  • Egg White
  • Garnish with lemo twist and/or cherries

Instructions

  • Add Amaretto, Bourbon, Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup and Egg White to a cocktail shaker without ice and dry shake. Be careful as dry shaking doesn't give you as good a seal on the shaker. You're dry shaking so that you can froth the Egg White up a little bit.
  • Shake again with plenty of ice to get things cold.
  • Strain into a Rocks glass either with fresh ice or neat.
  • Add garnish, drink.

Notes

*Simple Syrup is simple to make at home. Find our Simple Syrup recipe.
Don't discount the Bourbon in this cocktail recipe. It may not seem like a Bourbon forward cocktail, but you don't want to ruin a perfectly good drink with bad Bourbon.
With that being said, Amaretto has a sweet and nutty taste to it. This combines well with the Bourbon and offsets the sour aspect of this cocktail. This is all the more reason to be using a good Bourbon! You want the flavours intermingling with each other.
Have fun with this cocktail and enjoy it.
