Brave Bull

Print Recipe
The Brave Bull combine Tequila and Kahlua, so if you're a fan of Black Russians, you may like this interesting twist on the standard. But while the Black Russian is a pretty simple three ingredient cocktail, the Brave Bull is even easier with only two ingredients, making it extremely easy to make.
While Tequila and the coffee flavour of Kahlua may sound unusual, it actually works very well. The Vodka in a Black Russian is a pretty neutral taste, so all you're really getting there is the Kahlua and the Milk. But with the Brave Bull, you get that unique Tequila taste that just can't be found elsewhere. You really need to try the Brave Bull to understand it!
But it also goes to show how universal Coffee flavours are. Coffee can pair with pretty much anything, and the Brave Bull is proof of that. Once you start seeing how Kahlua works with a lot of cocktails, you'll start to want to use it in everything.
So give the Brave Bull a go. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Notes

Remember what we always say about Tequila based cocktails: don't go cheap on the Tequila. There are a lot of budget Tequilas out there and, while they may be fun to shoot when you're in a dive bar, keep that stuff away from your cocktails! Cheap Tequila is far from smooth; it can be quite harsh. And you don't want that harness in a cocktail, especially a basic cocktail like this that only has two ingredients like this one.
With that in mind, while you can replace the Kahlua with a generic Coffee Liqueur, once again, don't cheap. With everything cocktail related, use quality ingredients and you'll get a quality cocktail. Use low quality ingredients and you'll have a low quality cocktail. Good ingredients are very much worth it.
