Fresh Berry Delicious

Print Recipe
A berry forward cocktail with Strawberries, Honey, Rasberry Vodka, and more makes this concoction a winner. There's a fair few ingredients in here, so we wouldn't call this an "easy" cocktail. However, if you have them all, mixing them together isn't too tough. If you don't have them all, perhaps see what cocktail you can make with your ingredients.
Otherwise, go hunting for some of the less common bottles for your bar, including Blood Orange Liqueur and Licor 43, an unusual Spanish drop with (unsurprisingly) 43 ingredients including herbs, fruit, and more.
From there, all you need to do is muddle, shake, and serve to create this great cocktail.
Total Time 4 minutes
Servings 1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 30 mL Raspberry Vodka
  • 15 mL Licor 43
  • 15 mL Blood Orange Liqueur
  • 45 mL Lemon Juice
  • 15 mL Honey Syrup
  • 3 Strawberries (large)
  • Garnish with half a strawberry

Instructions

  • Muddle the Strawberries with the Honey Syrup in the bottom of a cocktail shaker.
  • Add the Vodka, Licor 43, Blood Orange Liqueur, and Lemon Juice to the shaker with plenty of ice. Shake until chilled.
  • Double strain into a Coupe.
  • Garnish and serve.

Notes

This cocktail is a relatively modern creation and was invented by Charlotte Voisey, but it feels quite classic, especially because of the use of some of the more unusual ingredients. This is a cocktail to make after you've build up your bar a little bit!
But if you do, it's well worth it, especially since it's a good excuse to break out some of your lesser used bottles. Unfortunately there's not a lot you can replace some of these ingredients with if you don't have anything. You may be able to get away with standard Vodka and a bit of Raspberry Syrup, and replace the Blood Orange Liqueur with a nice Orange Liqueur. However, there's nothing you can really replace the Licor 43 with...

Here’s a Bit More Information on the Fresh Berry Delicious

Quite frankly, this is a really cool cocktail. While the list of ingredients is a little on the long side, it’s well worth rounding them all up to create this wonderful cocktail. Combining all of these ingredients into something that works so well is truly a work of art. Sure, it’s easy to put together three, maybe four ingredients and have a decent idea of how they’d interact, but six ingredients! A nice thing about cocktails is that you can make most recipes easily as long as you have the ingredients; you don’t need to know how or why the recipe creator figured out how to combine everything to make something wonderful. All you have to do is follow a few steps.

So go ahead, make one of these!

Is making a few of these at the same time OK?

Yes and no. A key component to the Fresh Berry Delicious is the muddling of the Strawberries with the Honey Syrup. If you have too many Strawberries, you won’t get effective muddling.

Added to that, there’s a decent amount of liquid in this cocktail; there’s only so much you can fit into a cocktail shaker. Limit it to making two cocktails at a time.

Is it OK to make a Fresh Berry Delicious and save it for later?

Probably not. When all the fruit juices are stirred up, it changes the texture of the drink. If you leave it too much, you’ll lose that texture. Feel free to make a Fresh Berry Delicious a few minutes in advance if you’re expecting company is about to arrive, but don’t let this sit for too long.

When should I try a Fresh Berry Delicious?

Given the long list of ingredients for this recipe combined with the fact that a few of them are slightly unusual, especially for those who don’t often have a cocktail, we see the Fresh Berry Delicious as a great cocktail to make when you have a few people around if you want to impress them. Take all the bottles out and line them up in a row. Let people stare in awe at your impression collection of fine spirits and cocktail making equipment. Then make everyone a drink and bask in the glory that is your skill.

Cocktails are best enjoyed with others, and this is a prime recipe to share. Given how many different ingredients are in here though, you may want to keep the numbers down slightly when you’re sharing this drink with others. Otherwise you’ll be stuck mixing all night!

Is the Fresh Berry Delicious a strong cocktail?

Despite the long list of ingredients in here, including three different spirits, the Fresh Berry Delicious isn’t actually that strong. Sure Vodka sits around 40% alcohol by volume, but the Licor 43 and the Blood Orange Liqueur sit below that. There’s also plenty of other ingredients in there, slightly more in volume (if you include whatever comes out of the strawberries) than the alcoholic elements combined. Although this cocktail definitely has a kick and is surely stronger than, say, a glass of wine, it’s on the average side when it comes to cocktails. So enjoy, but enjoy knowing it’s still cocktail strength.

What music goes best with the Fresh Berry Delicious

Being a relatively modern cocktail we want to put this with some modern music. However, it’s also a fancy looking cocktail with some fancy ingredients, so we want modern but fancy. We’re thinking some sort of Modern Jazz. There’s a big difference being older, more traditional Jazz and a lot the more modern sounds coming out today. Like this cocktail, Modern Jazz can often be a little bit challenging, but it’s also very enjoyable!

So if you’re trying something different with this cocktail, why not try something a little bit different with your music as well. Have fun!
