We Have a Few More Thoughts About the Vodka Tonic

The Vodka Tonic is extremely easy to make and simple in flavour. It’s not designed to be anything flashy or flamboyant. While sometimes we like a cocktail with big flavour and over the top presentation, sometimes you want something a little simpler and unassuming. The Vodka Tonic does just that. Some people don’t really consider this a cocktail, but it obviously is, you’re mixing things after all.

Although quite basic, the Vodka Tonic is still a lovely cocktail. Tonic Water on its own isn’t the greatest, but mix it Vodka and a little bit of Lime Juice and you have quite the winner. It’s refreshing and it tastes good, so what more could you need?

Does making more than one Vodka Tonic at once work?

Yes. Although this cocktail is built in the glass, you’re also welcome to mix the ingredients together in a mixing glass or jug. Just mix everything without ice then pour it into tall glasses that have ice in them.

Does making a Vodka Tonic in advance work?

Not really. If you make a Vodka Tonic for later, the Tonic Water will go flat by the time you serve it. Any cocktail made with Tonic (or any carbonated beverage for that matter), it’s important that the Tonic is fresh and with plenty of bubbles. Make your Vodka Tonics fresh and ready to drink!

When’s the best time for a Vodka Tonic?

Since the Vodka Tonic is so simple, it’s easy to whip up. Within its simplicity also lies instant refreshment. As mentioned, Tonic Water on its own isn’t the best, it’s really only good when mixed with something else (in our opinion at least). But when it is mixed, there’s really nothing like it.

Because of the refreshing nature of the Vodka Tonic, this is a nice drink for warm summer days when you need to cool down a little bit. Like its cousin the Gin and Tonic, we see the Vodka Tonic as an afternoon drink. Sure, you can have one of these in the evening or even at night, but it’s really a day time drink. The kind of drink you have on a Saturday afternoon when you invite friend around for a few quiet ones to just catch up and let the day drop away. That’s perfect Vodka Tonic time!

How strong a cocktail is the Vodka Tonic?

The Vodka Tonic is the same strength as a Gin and Tonic, give or take based on the type of Gin or Vodka you use. They both use 60 mL of spirit. While both cocktails aren’t considered strong, they’re not consider weak either! They’re both quite average in terms of alcohol content. The other nice thing about the strength of the Vodka Tonic is that the Tonic Water tends to slow the drinking down considerably. There’s a pleasing bitterness to the Tonic Water. While it’s enjoyable, it’s a kind of taste you don’t want to much of, so the cocktail is sipped rather than gulped. This means you can really take your time with the Vodka Tonic and not have to worry too much about overdoing it!

What music goes best with a Vodka Tonic?

Like with the Gin and Tonic, we’re not going to weigh in here. The Vodka Tonic, while a lovely drink, is simply to simple (yet also versatile) to label and push into a corner with a specific style. As mentioned, this is a great cocktail for Summer afternoons with friends. So you do you here, get your friends together and put some music on that you like.

We don’t want to sound like we’re talking down about the Vodka Tonic (because we’re not), but it’s hardly an adventurous cocktail. So stay non-adventurous and just listen to a type of music that you like the best. No need to branch out here!
