Bella Donna Daiquiri

Print Recipe
A twist on the Classic Daiquiri brings Amaretto to the mix with Dark Rum and Lemon Juice. This is great if you want Daiquiri goodness but don't have White Rum or just want to try one of the many different variations of a Daiquiri.
As Daiquiris go, this one is on the sweeter side thanks to the Amaretto and additional Simple Syrup. The Classic Daiquiri of Rum, Lime, and Sugar can actually be on the more tart side, with the sugar only there to smooth things out. This recipe, on the other hand, is quite a bit smoother.
Total Time 4 minutes
Servings 1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 45 mL Dark Rum preferably Jamaican Rum
  • 45 mL Amaretto
  • 15 mL Lemon Juice

  • Rim the glass with Cinnamon Sugar
  • Put everything into a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice. Shake until very cold.
  • Strain into a Coupe.
  • Enjoy.

Our Review of the Bella Donna Daiquiri

I’m not 100% sure you can call the Bella Donna Daiquiri an actual Daiquiri. Sure, a Daiquiri is a cocktail that mixes rum and some sort of tangy citrus, but the tangy citrus element of the Bella Donna Daiquiri is fairly minimal and hides pretty successfully behind all that amaretto.

Does that mean that the Bella Donna Daiquiri isn’t a good cocktail? Of course not! Amaretto tastes great and it pairs well with dark rum. And we already know that amaretto and lemon juice go well together thanks to the Amaretto Sour. So everything in the Bella Donna Daiquiri actually works, I just don’t agree that it’s really a Daiquiri!

The name aside, I think the Bella Donna Daiquiri is a great cocktail. The rum gives it a slight tropical vibe, but it’s also a cocktail that warms you. It’s kind of like the Daiquiri for a cooler climate. So, if you’re willing to forgive that fact that the Bella Donna Daiquiri needs to be fruitier, if you like a mixture of rum and citrus, but want to enjoy something in colder weather, perhaps the Bella Donna is for you. Just be warned that going into this cocktail expecting a natural extension of a classic is the wrong approach. Just enjoy this cocktail for what it is!

So really, take all my negativity about the name of the Bella Donna with a pinch of salt. I liked the cocktail and can’t really fault it, and perhaps that’s why I focused on the name so much. You can probably take that as a good sign… I needed to say something negative about the Bella Donna Daiquiri and that’s all I could find.

Enjoy.

Very tasty although a little sweet for me thanks to the Amaretto. I’d still have it again, for dessert maybe.
