Fright Night in the Grove

Print Recipe
This recipe is brought to us by Jägermeister and uses Jägermeister (obviously) as well as Tequila, Grapefruit Juice, and some Simple Syrup for good measure. Jägermeister is often hard to use in cocktails, so it's fun to find good and interesting recipes that feature it well. This one is further interesting because it features a nice amount of Tequila as well. Both the Jägermeister and Tequila are pretty flavourful, but they combine well together to not be too overwhelming.
If you have a bottle of Jägermeister lying around and you're wondering what cocktail you can make, perhaps this is the cocktail recipe for you!

We like cocktail recipes created by manufacturers. It may sound strange to say, but they have interest in creating cocktail recipes so that consumers are encourage to use (and therefor purchase) their products. The recipes created by manufacturers are usually really interesting and novel and usually taste very good. After all, why would they create bad cocktail recipes for people to try their product?
So go ahead, be surprised by this, well, surprising cocktail!

Want to Know More About the Fright Night in the Grove?

As mentioned, this cocktail recipe was created by Jägermeister, so obviously it features Jägermeister heavily. A lot of other recipes would have the Tequila Reposado front and centre and may have changed the proportions around, but not this recipe. We already know that Tequila and citrus (in this case Grapefruit Juice) go well together, so that’s working. The Jägermeister is just extra here! It a lot of ways this is a strange riff on a Margarita, with the Grapefruit Juice taking the place of the Lime Juice, the Simple Syrup adding the sweetness that the Triple Sec usually does and the Jägermeister doing we don’t know what.

However you look at it, it’s a fun cocktail!

Will this cocktail upscale so I can make a batch of them?

The Fright Night At The Grove is a shaken cocktail, so it’s really a matter of how much liquid you can fit in your shaker and still be able to mix and chill everything. Don’t be tempted to try and turn this into a stirred cocktail so you can make more in a jug, it takes away from how ingredients like the Grapefruit Juice works.

Maybe try to make two or three at a time.

Will this cocktail keep for later?

If you put a pre-made Fright Night At The Grove in the fridge for later, it should be fine. Just don’t store it with ice, otherwise you’ll wind up with a diluted drink, and that’s no fun.

Is there an opportune time for a Fright Night in the Grove?

Given the name, you may want to serve a few of these at a Halloween party (or any sort of spooky party). There’s a somewhat scary look to this drink thanks to the reddish-brown tint of it and, paired with other Halloween cocktails, you may get a good menu going!

Barring that, although most of the elements in this cocktail are more suitable to warm weather (the Tequila and Grapefruit Juice specifically), the Jägermeister give it a more Autumn feel. So try this in slightly cooler whether if you want to be feeling warmer vibes.

Is the Fright Night in the Grove a strong cocktail?

At 35% ABV, Jägermeister isn’t exactly a low alcohol liqueur, but it’s less strong than most base spirits that usually come in above 40%. However, as things go, there’s not a huge difference between 35% and 40% is there? Yes, there are much stronger cocktails out there, but you’re pushing a total of 75 mL of spirit in this cocktail, most of it nearly full strength. We’re going to say the Fright Night in the Grove is a bit above average but we’re not going to say it’s “strong.” Either way, tread carefully with this one!

What’s the best kind of music to listen to when having a Fright Night in the Grove?

Halloween music of course! Think classics like Monster MashI Put a Spell on You, or even Thriller. If you’re so inclined, why not put on some heavier stuff and go with some Horror Punk like the Misfits. All these types of songs and music make for a great Halloween party you and your guests will love. And, of course, you need drinks to go with it. So make that drink a Fright Night in the Grove.

Have fun.
