Board Shorts Cocktail

Print Recipe
It seems that whenever we say that a Tiki cocktail made with bourbon is unusual, we seem to find another one. And that other one, this time, is the Board Shorts. While not part of the original Tiki canon, the Board Shorts cocktail still has some Tiki vibes to it.
Familiar fruit juices like lemon and pineapple are in this cocktail, as well as Peychaud's Bitters and orgeat. Obviously just because a cocktail has orgeat in it doesn't make it Tiki, and Tiki cocktails don't need orgeat, but it certainly helps fill out the flavour profile.
All in all, the Board Shorts cocktail is a wonderful way to round out a Tiki adventure. Start the night with the more prominent Tiki cocktails that are mostly made with rum, then mellow things out with something bourbon based. It's a much more dessert friendly cocktail. We think at least.
Total Time 4 minutes
Servings 1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 60 mL Bourbon
  • 10 mL Maraschino liqueur
  • 30 mL Pineapple juice
  • 20 mL Lemon juice
  • 15 mL Orgeat
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters

Instructions

  • Ad all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  • Shake everything.
  • Strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice.
  • Garnish with something tropical and serve.

Notes

We kind of stumbled across this cocktail, so don't really know where it came from or who invented it. While it's a great cocktail, it is a fairly standard recipe for anything tropical, just with bourbon instead of the usual rum. That, of course, doesn't make it bad, it just makes it interesting in a different way.
Since it is relatively simple (as tropical cocktails go), use the best ingredients you can get. This means a great bourbon and fresh juices. You'll be glad you went to the extra effort.
