Surf Liner

Print Recipe
The Surf Liner is one of the many amazing Tiki cocktail recipes that pack a punch in flavour. While the recipe has a full 60 mL of rye in it, that can often be relatively tame for Tiki recipes though. Another different that you may have already noted is that the Surf Liner uses rye! Anybody who's made a few Tiki cocktails will have noted that they're usually rum based. But, as you can see here, other spirits aren't unheard of. The Halekulani Cocktail, for example, uses bourbon.
Beyond that, the Surf Liner uses ingredients that you'll find familiar in the Tiki genre: fresh juices and orgeat. But to stop it from being "just another Tiki cocktail," the rye really changes things up.
So if you're looking for a great cocktail to change up your Tiki game, try a Surf Liner.

  • Garnish with tropical fruits and edible flowers

Instructions

  • Shake everything to chill and mix it.
  • Strain into a rocks glass filled with crushed ice.
  • Garnish and serve.

Notes

For best results, use fresh fruit juices, they can't be beat. While you're at it, use a good and flavourful rye. The spice in the rye will really shine through if you use something good. After all, it's slightly unusual to be using rye in a Tiki cocktail, so you may as well make it a feature!
Despite the rye, the Surf Liner Cocktail still comes out as refreshing and tropical as it should. Perhaps better served on a cooler evening that under the sun by the pool, this cocktail really shows that tropical cocktails can be surprisingly variable.
